The Mustang was introduced in April 1964 (as a 1965 model) and was advertised for $2,368 f.o.b. Detroit for the coupe. Reaction to the Mustang's arrival was tremendous and dealers could not get enough.A legend was created literally overnight! But if the Mustang was an instant hit, it can be credited to the years of planning and effort put into it's concept and design. The Mustang was certainly a start of a Detroit revolution...the stampede was on.

1964-1968

1969 was the second major restyle of the mustang. The mustang grew everywhere except the wheelbase (still 108 inches) and the height which lowered by 1-1/2 inches. Including the Boss engines, there was a total of ten different engines avalible. In 1969, the mustang had 4-4in headlights. The fastback was now called the SportsRoof. Convertibles and hardtops had simulated rear quarter panel vents.

1969-1978

The Mustang lost appeal, and sales dropped. In the early 80's, Ford brought back many of the characteristics of the original Mustang. The goal was to make the best Mustang design ever. These became known as the Third Generation Mustangs or Fox-Body Mustangs. This new generation of Mustangs was one of the longest ever. It lasted from 1979 to 1993.

1979-1993

In 1993, Ford unveiled the new re-designed Fourth Generation 1994 Mustang. It had a 215 hp, 285 lb./ft. of torque 302 HO 5.0L V-8. The body was made smoother, with a long sloped hood and short deck with a rear spoiler. Ford also brought back the original Mustang horse emblem on the grill. The headlights were similar to those of the '93 Mustang, but were made rounder and smoother. The taillights were modified to three-section horizontal lights that wrap around the body like the headlights. The car was given large 17" tires and new Cast Aluminum wheels. The interior was also upgraded, and made more comfortable.
